OCTOBER 2013
Y.O.G.A. for Youth and Communities In Schools of Orange County are off and running, bringing yoga to various public schools near you every weekday – and sometimes on Saturdays too! We could not have gotten off to such a seamless start without the organization Yoga Activist. Thanks to the most recent teacher training, we were prepared with plenty of teachers and assistants, but still missing one ingredient… yoga mats! Fortunately, Yoga Activist, a non-profit based in Washington DC, has a mat lending program, in which they collect donated mats, and loan them to organizations like Y.O.G.A. for Youth. Jasmine Chehrazi (left in photo) founded Yoga Activist to empower teachers to bring yoga to communities that need it. We received sixty mats, along with some props, from the organization. They were put to use right away at a Stanford Middle School program which will be teaching techniques of mindfulness and Kundalini yoga all year long. Thanks so much, Yoga Activist!
