Hero of the Month: Paura Heo

JUNE 2013

Paura Heo

Program Director, Communities In Schools of Orange County, Inc.

“I celebrate myself! I celebrate you! I am lover of learning and un-learning.  And, my Practice has provided a grounding that allows me to move through life freely.”

The product of two devotees, a monk and a nun turned laypersons, Paura found a meditation and yoga practice very naturally and very early in life. Much of her youth was spent reading, volunteering, and attending silent retreats.  She traveled extensively as a student ambassador throughout high school and has lived and worked in the Caribbean, Bali, and South Korea. Paura focuses on creating spaces, within the body and without, for light and love and movement. She is so grateful to Y.O.G.A. for Youth for making it possible to cultivate a practice and create safe spaces for our young people! Paura serves on the board of Mental Health America of the Triangle; volunteers with the OC Rape Crisis Center; and trains with Ti Harmony in Carrboro. She is influenced by Pema Chodron, Swami Prabhavananda, and Angela Farmer.
