Over the past 10 years, the awareness of yoga has grown tremendously around the world, and as a result there are more Black people doing yoga and more Black people teaching yoga now than ever before. The climate surrounding the practice of yoga has grown so that more health institutions, prisons, detention centers, work places and schools are recognizing yoga as a vehicle for health and wellness. The presence of IABYT over the past 10 years has played a significant role in this growing awareness and acceptance of yoga, and our mission to serve the African Diaspora by spreading the teachings of the ancient art and science of yoga lives on.
In addition to a variety of yoga classes of varying styles, Summit 2008 will provide workshops and discussions on health, yoga anatomy, philosophy, Egyptian Yoga, the Chakras, meditation, use of sound and mantra on stress, yoga as therapy and other related topics. There will be massages and other relaxing treatments available. Keynote presenters including Muata Ashby, Arturo Peal, Denise Davidson, Nicole Murray, Sankofa and a host of others will be highlighted, promising to expand our horizons and motivate us to greater levels of understanding and commitment.
Come and reinvigorate, inform, improve and nurture yourself in the company of other great yoga enthusiasts and teachers of color. Come to enjoy the power and beauty of being together in the stillness, the laughter and the open and candid discussions on yoga and the way it can help shape our future and the future of our families.
